1. Mix thoroughly shortening, brown sugar, egg and molasses. Blend in remaining ingredients except powdered sugar. Cover, chill 1 hour.
2. Heat oven to 375 degrees. Shape dough by rounded teaspoonfuls into balls. Place balls 3 inches apart on lightly greased baking sheet. Bake 10 to 12 minutes or just until set. Immediately remove from baking sheet.
3. When cooled, place 2-3 cups of powdered sugar in a large plastic bag, cover cookies with powdered sugar by placing multiple cookies at a time in the plastic bag and shaking. Add powdered sugar to bag as needed. Remove from bag, tap execess sugar from cookies and serve.
Powdered sugar tends to stick better when the cookies are still warm.
