Place butter in a 7x9-inch baking dish and set dish in warm oven until butter melts.
Trim crusts from bread and cut slices into 1-inch cubes. Toss cubes in melted butter and with a slotted spoon remove to a bowl. Spread butter up sides of baking dish to grease thoroughly.
Cut cheese into thin slices and place half the slicesin bottom of baking dish. Cover with half of the buttered bread cubes. Repeat, using remaining cheese and bread cubes.
Beat eggs and mix in milk, mustard, Worcestershire, salt and cayenne pepper. Pour over the bread and cheese.
Refrigerate overnight. Remove casserole from refrigerator and return to room temperature. Bake for about an hour or until puffed and set.
Preheat oven to 325 degrees.
