- Bring milk to a boil.
- Add grits & 1 stick of butter - heat to consistency of oatmeal.
- Remove from heat and add salt, pepper, egg, garlic and stir until well combined (stir vigorously to keep egg from curding).
- Add additional butter & Gruyere cheese and stir well.
- Place in 9 x 12 dish. Sprinkle with parmesan cheese & paprika.
** (May refrigerate at this point to bake later)
- Bake at 350* for 45 minutes or until set/starting to brown.
