Wonderful bread from Grandma and Grandpa Hansen! Great memories!
Pour boiling water over oatmeal to heavy stir stage.
Then let stand for 5 minutes (thick oatmeal consistency)
Cool oatmeal (ice cubes in lower bowl)
Be sure to cool boiled oatmeal to less than lukewarm or the yeast will get killed.
Use same temperature to dissolve the yeast –lukewarm.
Add 1 cup of white sugar or syrup.
½ teaspoon baking soda
3 packages yeast, dissolved in lukewarm milk or other liquid such as water.
If necessary add more liquid to oatmeal. Could add ½ cup sweetened condensed milk.
Kneed in as much flour as needed to make any other bread.
Put in warm oven to help bread rise prior to baking.
Grease bread pan with oil.
Bake at 375 degrees about 45 minutes (Check every 15)
