Preheat oven to 350*. Cream sugar and shortening until fluffy. Add eggs that have been beaten separately until thickened and lemon colored. Add mashed bananas. Add soda to flour, then add to mixture. Add buttermilk, pecans and vanilla. Pour into either cake pans or an 11” x 15” cookie sheet. Bake at 350* for 30 minutes or until done.
For icing - mix melted butter and banana. Gradually add powdered sugar. Fold in pecans and vanilla. Spread over warm cake.
