Trim green beans and then split down the center.
Spread a layer of chopped onion, garlic and tomato over the bottom of a large pan and add a layer of beans. Repeat until all ingredients are used. Pour over olive oil, water, lemon juice, salt and sugar. Cook over medium heat for 40-45 minutes. Once cooked, take off heat, allow to cool and add dill.
Take out of liquid with tongs and serve as a side.
