Gran's gumbo
In a skillet, cook onion, celery, and garlic in the Crisco until tender but not browned.
ADD tomatoes, tomato sauce and salt, sugar, worchestershire sauce, chili powder and dash of hot sauce.
Also for added flavor 1 tbl. gumbo filet/ SIMMER, UNCOVERED, for 45 mins.
Mix 2 tbls. cornstarch with 1 Tbl. cold water; stir into sauce. COOK and STIR until ixture thickens and bubbles.
ADD shrimp and green pepper. COVER and simmer 5 mins.
Serve with rice.
You may use crab intead of shrimp in this recipe with equal success.
