Creamy, potluck
In a 4-quart Dutch oven, melt the 6 Tbsp. butter. Stir in flour, salt, and pepper. Add milk all at once. Cook and stir over medium heat until thickened and bubbly. Remove from heat; stir in cream cheese until nearly smooth. Stire in thawed potatoes.
Spread in an ungreased 2-quart casserole. Combine bread crumbs and the 2 tablespoons melted butter or margarine. Sprinkle evenly over hash brown mixture. Bake, uncovered, in a 350 degree oven for 40 - 45 minutes or until center is hot. Let stand 10 minutes before serving. Makes 8 to 10 side-dish servings.
