Melt stick of margarine in pan. Add frozen hash browns, broken apart. Stir in onion, soup, salt, and sour cream. Stir cheese into this mixture.
Topping: lightly crush corn flakes to make 2 cups; spread on top of above mixture. Slowly drip the melted the melted margarine over corn flakes. Bake in 350 degree oven for 45 minutes. (Actually more like 1 hour to 1 & 15 mins.)
