Tender spiced apples make a great topping for ice cream or pound cake, or to have by itself as dessert or as a side dish to accompany ham or turkey. Stir into hot oatmeal for a hearty breakfast.
Core and slice the apples into 1/2-inch slices, leaving peel on. Good apples to use are Braeburn, Yellow Delicious, Winesap, Cortland. Melt butter in saute pan over medium heat. Add apples and cook until just softening, stirring frequently. Stir in remaining ingredients and cook until bubbling. You don't want the apples to fall apart. May add raisins, dried cranberries, and/or nuts. May use brown sugar substitute.
