Suggest a better descriptionWash beans thoroughly. Place beans in 3 qt. saucepan with 6 cups of water. Bring to a boil and boil for 5 minutes. Let stand for 30 minutes. Drain beans and place back into pot. Add seasonings with 8 cups of water. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer for 45 minutes. Add rice and continue simmering until rice and beans are tender.
*You may add 1/4 to 1/2 cup of barley to add to consistency and flavor
