Whisk together everything but the bread. Pour the mixture into a shallow dish. Heat a nonstick skillet over medium heat and spray with cooking spray. Quickly dip slices of bread (both sides) in the milk mixture and put into the pan. Cook about 3 minutes a side. Serve with syrup, warmed applesauce or your favorite fruit compote.
Use the warm setting on your oven to keep the first pieces hot while you cook the rest.
