Preheat oven to 350 degrees
Cream Crisco, sugar, egg, milk and vanilla in large bowl until well blended.
Combine flour, baking powder, salt and baking soda.
Beat dry ingredients into creamed mixture at low speed. Divide into 40 pieces and press around cherries. Place 2 inches apart on greased baking sheet and bake 10 minutes. Cool completely on cooling rack.
Combine choice of chocolate with crisco and melt in microwave or double boiler. Use fork to drop cookies into melting chocolate and coat generously. Place on wax paper lined cookie sheet and sprinkle with pecans or white chocolate slivers. Chill in refrigerator.
