Suggest a better descriptionMix yeast, sugar, & salt. Add water & stir well. Add well beatened egg. Add 2-3 cups of the sifted flour & mix well. Add 1/2 melted butter, then add 2-3 cups of flour (for a total of 5-5 1/2 cups) & mix well. Use some of the remaining butter & grease well over top. Cover & set to rise.
When risen to double it's bulk, pour onto floured board. Knead a few times & form into rolls or into 2 loaves. Put into greased pans. Grease top with remaining butter. Cover & let rise a second time.
Bake rolls about 15-20 minutes @ 425 degrees.
Bake loaves about 30-45 minutes @ 325 degrees.
To make cinnamon rolls, instead of forming rolls or loaves, roll dough into a rectangular shape. Grease top generously with soft butter & sprinkle with cinnamon & sugar. Roll dough and cut into slices. Let rise. Bake @ 425 degrees.
Icing can be made with cream cheese & powdered sugar OR mix 1 1/2 c powdered sugar, 2 T soft butter, 1 1/2 t vanilla & 1-2 T hot water.
