Cream butter and all sugars together with mixer. Stir in water, vanilla, salt and egg. In a separate bowl, sift and add flour and baking soda. Add nuts and chocolate chips into the bowl and mix lightly. Mix gently into the butter mixture until well mixed.
Using 2 teaspoons, drop on to cookie sheets about 2" apart. Do not bake them huge ... about the size of a ping-pong ball. These are "drop cookies" so they won't be nicely rounded. Bake at 325 degrees for 15 minutes; switch the positions of the cookie trays in the oven and bake an additional 10-15 minutes. These cookies should be baked until brown.
