heat the butter in a skillet and add onions. Saute until translucent.
in a saucepan add sour cream. milk, and cheese. Heat until melted, and blended.
Use oil to grease a casserole dish large enough for all ingredients. Add a layer of Potatoes, and onions, then cover with cheese sauce. Repeat until all ingredients are used up.
Bake at 350 for 20 minutes to 1/2 hour or until bubbly.
