A spin on the traditional hot breakfast meal using 2% milk instead of water. No added sugar to make it healthier.
1. Add milk to a medium sized pot along with salt, vanilla extract and cinnamon. Bring to a soft boil.
2. Add the steel-cut oats to the milk. Allow to simmer for 20-25 minutes until the milk is absorbed by the oats and the mixture "burps."
3. Serve 1/3 cup of oatmeal with 3 tablespoons of applesauce and a sprinkling of granola or a similar crunchy muesli cereal.
