My mother-in-law gave me this recipe from her early married years, living in Afghanistan. You can add nuts, other dried fruit, lentils or beans, or meat to mix things up. My kids like this.
Cook rice
saute onions in oile & spice until transluscent
Add carrots and raisins and cooked lentils
mix with rice
