Make syrup 1st and set aside to cool.
Beat butter until creamed
Slowly add sugar
When mixed well, add beaten egg yolks
Slowly add flour; add chopped nuts to 1 cup of the flour and add that separately
Beat egg whites and slowly fold in.
Pour mixture into greased pan.
Bake 350-375 for 40-45 minutes or until done.
Add cooled syrup to warm cake. Cut once cooled. Add 1/2-1/4 candied cherry to each piece
