This is a nice and easy buttercream frosting that the kids can help out with in the kitchen. After making the frosting, have fun with a couple drops of your favorite food coloring mixed in, if you wish to make colored frostings.
Beat the butter, confectioners' sugar, vanilla extract, milk (or heavy cream), and salt in the bowl of an electric mixer at low speed until the sugar is moistened. Increase the speed to medium and beat, stopping twice to scrape down the bowl, until creamy and fluffy, about 1 1/2 minutes.
