If you're so inclined... marinate the steak tips in whatever your favorite marinade is. Then quickly brown just the outside of the steak tips with chopped onions on the stovetop.
Place mixture in 8X8 casserole dish. Cover and bake in the oven at 400 degrees for 45 minutes. When you bring out the mixture and uncover, turn the oven to 350 degrees.
Add and mix in the gravy and the vegetables (drained). Top with mashed potatoes.
Cook at 350 degrees for about 30 minutes. Top with shredded cheese and bake another 5-10 minutes, or until cheese melts and starts to brown.
You can also broil to give the top a nice color for the last 5 minutes instead (only with a top broiler...and WATCH closely so as not to burn the cheese and ruin the flavors).
