Your old favorite with a holiday twist. Originally created and issued by the Knudsen dairy products company.
Preheat oven to 350(F) degrees.
Blending topping ingredients together.
Cream together butter, shortening and sugar.
Add eggs, sour cream and vanilla and beat well.
Sift the dry ingredients together and gradually mix into the butter-sugar-egg mixture. When mixture is too thick to beat, stir with a spoon until well mixed.
Spread half the mixture in a well-buttered 9 inch tube or bundt pan and sprinkle with half of the topping mixture.
Spread rest of dough on top and sprinkle with remaining topping mix.
Bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour or until a toothpick comes out clean.
Let cool 15 to 20 minutes in pan before turning out.
Sift powdered sugar on top while still warm. Cut and arrange red and green cherries on top to look like holly and berries.
Serves 10-12.
Growing up, my parents served this wonderful coffee cake for holiday brunches. Sometimes I was allowed to use marzipan and food coloring to make the "holly" that garnished the top of the cake instead of the candied fruit. I have the actual page with the printed recipe torn out of a Better Homes and Gardens magazine from the late 1970's.
