A sweet bread made from yeasted dough and usually having a nut or poppy seed filling. A Slavic Holiday delicacie.
Scald 1/4 cup of milk on stove, add 2 teaspoons of sugar to hot milk and stir until dissolved. Cool milk for about 15 minutes and then add yeast. Stir until yeast is dissolved. Wisk together 2 eggs and 1 cup of pet milk and add to yeast mixture.
Dough: Mix all dry ingredients until it crumbly. Then add wet ingredients to dry ingredients and mix well. You will need to knead dough on a lightly floured surface. then place dough in a greased bowl and cover with cloth and put in a warm place to rise ( about 1 hour)
Nut Filling: 2 pounds Englis Walnuts (ground), 1 teaspoon vanilla, 1 cup sugar. Mix in a food processor and add milk to make a paste. I use about 3/4 to 1 cup of regular milk.
After dough rises divide into 2-4 sections ( I divide mine into 4), roll out one section 6x8 rectangular shape wont be perfect. Spread part of nut filling on dough, then roll dough like a jelly roll and seal ends. Place on a cookie sheet lined with parchment paper. Cover with cloth and let rise in a warm place for about an hour or longer. Repeat step until all dough is filled.
Preheat oven and bake at 325 for 30 minutes. Remove from oven and take a pastry brush and apply milk to the loaf and sprinkle with sugar.
The hardest part to this reipe is getting the yeast to activate. Your milk shoud only be warm
( 105 ) on a candy thermoter. If milk is to warm you Kloacky will be very heavy ( like a brick )
