Suggest a better description1. Over medium heat, begin to cook diced onions. When partially cooked, add sausage (removed from casings). Cook through, and drain fat. Add garlic and saute for 30 seconds, then remove from heat and add in 1 jar of the tomato sauce. Stir in oregano and set aside.
2. In a large bowl, combine ricotta, eggs, 1 cup of the mozzarella, all of the parmesan, and the basil.
3. Spread a layer of tomato sauce (from the other jar) in the bottom of a 9x13 pan, then place a layer of noodles in the bottom of the pan. Make sure all of the noodles touch some of the tomato sauce, as best as possible. Add a layer of the cheese mix, and then a layer of the tomato-meat mixture, then another layer of noodles. Repeat twice more, finishing with noodles, tomato-meat mixture, and then sprinkle the reserved 1/2 cup mozzarella on top (and a little parmesan, if you like).
4. Spray a piece of foil with nonstick spray (or wipe with olive oil) and tightly cover the pan. Bake at 350 F for 45 minutes, then remove the foil and bake an additional 10 minutes, or until cheese begins to brown. Let stand on the counter for 10 minutes before cutting.
** If pan is made beforehand and refrigerated, bake for 55 minutes while covered with foil (instead of 45).
** You can add veggies (like mushrooms or peppers) in with the onions in step 1.
