The family loves it! It's time consuming but not as much as "from scratch" lasagne. I like to make an extra to freeze for a weeknight.
Brown Italian sausage. Add spaghetti sauce and simmer. If using dry noodles, add a little water.
In a separate bowl, mix an egg into the ricotta cheese. Mix in shredded Parmesan cheese.
Season cheese with basil and/or parsley. I also usually add a bit of garlic powder.
You can mix in the mozzarella as well or sprinkle it separately. Reserve some for the top if mixing in.
Spray 9x13 pan. Layer in this order:
Sauce to cover, noodles, cheese, sauce...continue for 3 layers. End with sauce covering all, then sprinkle some of the mozzarella on top.
Cover and bake at 350 until hot & bubbly, about 50-60 min.
Uncover and bake 10 min more to brown.
TIP: place the pan on a sheet pan to catch any overflow.
This recipe is a guide. Ground beef or turkey could be used. Homemade sauce could be used. Veggies, like spinach could be added.
