Cook macaroni according to directions on package.
Melt butter. Add flour. Stir to make a paste.
Gradually add milk to paste. Stir until ht mixture thickens (about 2 minutes). Add sugar and salt. Turn down heat.
Cube Velveeta cheese. Add to mixture and let it melt.
Add cottage cheese and sour cream to mixture (add ham here if desired). Stir until melted. Pour over macaroni noodles in 13×9 casserole dish.
Melt 2 tbls. of butter. Toss with breadcrumbs. Sprinkle cheddar cheese and breadcrumbs over macaroni and cheese mixture.
Cook for 30 minutes at 350 degrees.
