Maple bacon doughnuts are famous in various cities in the US, such as Portland, Oregon where many flock to Voodoo Doughnuts for the maple bacon bar. Yet, you don't have to be there to enjoy these delights. Along with a little taste of nutmeg, these baked treats are covered with a maple glaze and topped with cooked bacon. Here is how to make maple bacon baked doughnut holes.
Preheat the oven to 350ºF
Make the batter. Mix the dry ingredients in a large bowl. Cut the butter into the mixture so it becomes crumb-like. Whisk in the milk and egg.
Pour the mixture into a pre-greased mini muffin pan. You'll want to fill them in the mini muffin pan to only about halfway, since you don't want them to look like muffins.
Bake for 15 to 18 minutes in muffin pans, or until golden brown. Allow them to cool on a cooling rack.
Make the icing. Whisk the maple syrup, powdered sugar, and milk together in a small bowl until you achieve the right consistency. Dip the doughnut holes in the icing.
Sprinkle the chopped bacon on top before the icing sets.
