Place cranberries in in a mixing bowl and cover with 1/4 cup hot water and set aside to rehydrate, 5-8 minutes. When rehydrated, add cranberries and their rehydrating liquid to a pan over medium heat. Add syrup, remaining water (1/4 cup), and vegetable base to the hot pan. Bring to a simmer and cook until slightly thickened, 2-4 minutes. Remove from heat and season to taste with salt and pepper. Pour over pork or poultry.
