A Christmas tradition in our house for over 20 years. Requested by everyone who have had them at least once.
Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Blend shortening, brown sugar and white granulated sugar in a large bowl. Beat in vanilla and eggs. Sift remaining dry ingredients together and add to sugar and egg mixture. Blend well. Drop by teaspoon onto ungreased cookie sheet about 2 inches apart. Place four m&m's on top of each cookie. Do not push into cookie. Bake for 10 minutes or until golden brown. Do not over bake.
Use red and green m&m's for Christmas. Brown and orange for Halloween. If cookies get hard, add a couple slices of bread to give a fresh baked softness.
