Sift together 3¼ cups flour, baking powder and salt. Toss cherries in remaining ¼ cup flour to coat. Scald the milk. Cream until fluffy, butter and sugar, and eggs and beat again. Add flour, mixture in 3 parts and blend well with hot milk. Add vanilla. Stir in the cherries. Pour batter into a grease and floured tube pan or line and grease the pan with parchment paper.
Bake at 325° for 1½ hours.
