Suggest a better descriptionPreheat oven to 375°. Grease 2-at. casserole. (I use a glass pie pan). Into mixing bowl, sift flour, sugar, salt, and baking powder. Stir in caraway seeds. With 2 knives or a pastry blender, cut in butter until like coarse cornmeal. Stir in raisins. Combine buttermilk, egg and baking soda; stir into flour mixture until just moistened.
Turn dough onto lightly floured surface; knead lightly till smooth; shape into ball. Place in casserole. With sharp knife, make 4" cross, 1/4" deep, in center. Brush with egg yolk. Bake about 1 he., or until done. Cool in pan 10 minutes; finish cooling.
