Mix salt and flour and cut shortening in until it's crumbly. Mix egg, cold water and vinegar together and add to shortening mixture, kneading until it forms a smooth ball.
For each dumpling: Roll out a portion of douch and place apple in center. Mix sugar and cinnamon together and fill each cored apple with mixture. Dot top of core with 1 t - 1 T of butter. Bring dough up around apple and seal. Place in baking dish, not touching each other.
Mix sugar, water, butter and cinnamon and bring to boil. Let simmer 3 minutes. Pour into baking dish, but not over apples. Bake at 400 for 1 hour (400 convection for 45 minutes) until lightly browned.
