Had for Halloween for Fall Break at the Cabin

Heat oven to 350 degrees and dot an 8 X 8 foil pan or baking dish with thin butter pats. Put apples in pan and spread out. (This is where you Sprinkle apples with water but I don't. Wet apples work great!) Put flour, sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg and salt in a bowl. Add cold cube of butter to this and blend in with a pastry cutter (or two butter knives) until coarse and crumbly. Spread over the top. Bake for about 30 minutes (I bake for 60 MINUTES, UNCOVERED, until golden brown and crusty) until the crust is browned nicely.
Works well with other fruit, especially peaches.
