In a 5 qt. Dutch Oven melt shortening. Rub meat with a mixture of flour and salt and pepper. Brown meat for approx. 15 minutes.
Reduce heat and add water, cover. Simmer for approx 3 1/2 hours over medium heat or place in a 325 degree oven.,.
One and one half hours before end of cooking, add vegetables.
For 2 serings only cook 1/2 of vegetables and save remaining meat for another meal.
