Heat oven to 250. Beat together eggs, milk, nutmeg and vanilla. in a large frying pan melt butter over medium high heat. Dip the bread slices in the egg mixture and then fry the bread in the frying pan. when golden brown on both sides transfer slices to a heat proof platter and place them in the oven to keep warm. Continue until all slices are cooked.
