Preheat oven to 350.
Pour boiling water over oatmeal. Stir in brown sugar, margarine, and eggs. Mix in flour, soda, cinnamon, and salt. Pour into greased and floured 9 x 13 baking dish. Bake for 30 to 35 minutes.
In saucepan melt margarine. Add brown sugar and milk. Bring to a boil and cook for 1 minute. Add coconut and walnuts. Frost warm cake. Broil until frosting bubbles and browns slightly.
