In a mixing bowl, cream shortening, molasses and egg. Combine dry ingredients; stir into creamed mixture. Roll into 1 inch balls, roll in sugar. Place on greased baking sheets. Flatten slightly with a fork or glass. Bake at 350 degrees for 10 minutes. Do not over-bake.
