It's really hard to resist eating these right out of the oven... I fail almost every year. Tangy cream cheese frosting goes exceptionally well with the light, buttery cookies.
For the cookies:
1. Stir together flour, baking powder, and salt in a large bowl.
2. Cream the butter in a mixer.
3. Mix the sugar into the creamed butter.
4. Stir the egg, milk, and vanilla into the butter, mixing well.
5. Add the dry ingredients (flour mixture) to the butter mixture, mixing until combined.
6. Refrigerate dough for at least 30 minutes.
7. Roll out the dough on a floured surface (or with parchment paper) to about an 1/8 inch thickness.
8. Cut into desired shapes and place on ungreased cookie sheets.
9. Bake at 400 degrees for about 8 minutes or until delicately browned.
10. Cool on a wire rack.
11. Frost with cream cheese frosting.
For the frosting:
1. Beat butter, cream cheese, and vanilla until well combined.
2. Mix in sugar a little at a time until combined, tasting as you go.
For some added color, decorate with sprinkles (less is more here).
