I imagine this to be what cornbread should be!
Do not sift the cornmeal. Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Beat egg. Mix all ingredients together and bake in a greased pan or skillet for 35 to 40 minutes.
As soon as it comes out of the oven, dot with butter. Serve warm with additional butter. Great with soups and stews.
