In large saucepan, combine onion and butter. Cook slowly until onion is clear. Add tomatoes and green chilies and stir well. Cut Velveeta cheese in chunks and add to onion-tomato mixture. Heat mixture on low until cheese melts, stirring constantly. Serve hot or at room temp with chips.
