Preheat oven to 350. Wash turkey in cold water and pat dry with paper towels. Combine oil, salt, garlic powder, liquid smoke and black pepper; mix well to make a paste. Rub turkey inside and out with the paste. Place turkey in a greased brown paper bag. Fold bag under, or tie with a string. Place in a 9 x 13 pan and bake for 3 1/2 hours. Remove from oven and let stand at room temperature for 30 minutes before untying the bag.
You may substitute 2 turkey breasts for a whole turkey.
