In a large pot, put olive oil onion and garlic.
Cook over medium heat until onion is translucent
Put one can of tomatoes in a blender, and puree
Add pured tomatoes to pot.
Drain second can of tomatoes, and break then into bite sized peices. Add to pot.
Chop basil leaves, and add them to the pot
Simmer for 20 minutes.
You now have a very basic pasta sauce, that you can add whatever ingredients you desire to, or season it with salt and pepper and have it plain.
Red pepper flakes will give it a little zip.
