Cream crisco, sugar, egg milk, and vanilla in a large bowl in mixer until well blended.
Combine flour, baking powder, salt and baking soda.
Beat into creamed mixture.
Press dough in a very thin layer around cherries.
Place 2 inches apart on ungreased baking sheet.
Bake at 350 degrees for 10 minutes.
Cool on baking sheets 1 minute.
Remove to rack and cool completely.
To prepare the dipping sauce- melt chocolate and crisco on very low heat. Stir.
Transfer chocolate to glass measuring cup.
Drop on cookie at a time in the chocolate. Use a fork to turn. Cover cookie completely.
Lift cookie out of chocolate with fork and allow excess to drip off.
Place on wax paper lined baking sheets.
Sprinkle nuts on top.
Chill in refrigerator to set chocolate.
