This is a family favorite that my father-in-law has been making for many moons! I know the name isn't very appetizing; but trust me... you will be pleasantly surprised! My husband tried and tried to get me to try this when we first started dating and I refused the name and the ingredients sounded very bizzar and finally after much begging I tried it and... well it is now a regular quick fix meal at our house!! The flavor of this dish is basically a beef risotto... bizzar but really good and comforting!!
SKILLET VERSION:
1) Brown ground beef in a large skillet and season with 1/2 the seasonings. Then add the remaining ingredients and bring to a boil.
2) Cover the skillet, turn off the heat, and let simmer 2 minutes on the burner. Then remove from stove and place on table keeping cover on to "finish cooking" the rice for 5 minutes. Serve with soy sauce.
--OR--
CROCK-POT VERSION:
1) Brown the ground beef in a frying pan and season with 1/2 of the seasonings.
2) Dump ground beef and all remaining ingrediants in a crock pot and stir well. Turn crock pot to high and cook 1 to 2 hours or till rice is cooked (keep an eye on it so not to burn). Serve with soy sauce.
**I know this is such a weird combination of ingredients but it really does work!! And yes, even adding soy sauce for a bit more salt actually tastes good!
