Combine sugar and water in a medium pot.
Bring to a boil, stirring occasionally, and cook until sugar dissolves, 1 minute. Let cool.
Stir together simple syrup, tequila, pomegranate juice, and lime juice in a large pitcher or punch bowl.
Chill for at least 2 hours and up to 24 hours.
Just before serving, stir in 3 cups chilled club soda.
Serve over ice, garnished with pomegranate seeds and lime slices.
