Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Mix together; only 1/2 cup sugar, butter, pretzels. Bake 7 minutes. Cool.
Whip cream cheese & remaining 1/2 cup sugar together. Fold in cool whip & pineapple. Add pretzel mixture to salad just before serving.
I don't usually add all the pretzel mixture. It feels like it would be too much...?...
