A family favorite. We had this at every holiday. Mom used this as a gift item.
I believe Dad's Mom (Rose Mendyke) had the recipe first, but mom always made it.

Dissolve 1 small cake of yeast into the 1 2/3 cups of warm water to activate the yeast.
Combine with milk, salt, sugar, vanilla, and butter.
Add 3 well beaten eggs.
Slowly add the 8 cups of flour. Beat well.
Put into 4 very heavily greased loaf pans.
Topping:
1 cup brown sugar
1/4 pound butter
2 tablespoons flour
Work together with a fork and sprinkle on top of the four loaf pans before raising.
Cover with a light cloth or towel. Let raise until double in size.
Bake at 350 degrees for 50 minutes.
This needs to be made with live yeast. Make sure the yeast activates properly before adding it to the other ingredients.
