In a medium mixing bowl stir together the flour and salt. Using a pastry blender, cut in the 6 tablesppons butter unitl mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Add water, 1 tablespoon at a time, gently tossing mixture with a fork unitl all the flour mixture is moistened. Form dough into a ball and wrap in waxed paper.
Chill 1 hour.
On a floured surface roll pastry to 1/8-inch thickness. Using a 2 3/4-inch round cookie cutter, cut 18 circles. Fit the circles into 1 3/4-inch muffin cups.
Place 1/4 teaspoon jam into each pastry shell.
Using an electric mixer, beat together the sugar and 3 tablespoons butter until creamy. Stir in almonds, almond extract and egg. Spoon 1 tablespoon of the almond mixture over the jam in each pastry shell.
Bake for 23-25 minutes, until golden brown.
Remove from pan and cool on a wire rack.
Sift powdered sugar over tops.
