Heat vegetable oil in a large saute pan. Add red onion an cook until golden, approximately 15 to 20 minutes. Stir in vinegar, sugar, ketchup, cayenne pepper, and white pepper. Continue cooking until thickened slightly, approximately 5 minutes. Remove from heat. Keep warm until ready to serve.
