Lightly spray cups of pan with Pam
Sift Flour and salt together and set aside
Cream Shortening and sugar and egg and mix untill well blended.
Add cocoa and food coloring to shortening mix
Add flour mixture alternating with buttermilk
Blen in Vanilla
In a small bowl, combine baking soda and vinegar ( this will fiz up)
Fold mixture carefully into the batter
Divide the batter equally among the six cups with the back of the spoon
Some of the batter from the middle of each cup into the heart shape at the top
Frosting: 1/2 cup shortening, 3/4 teaspoon vanilla, 2 1/4 cup sifted powdered sugar, 1 1/2 to 2 tablespoons milk, Red food coloring
Beat Shortening and vanilla with electric mixer on medium speed for 30 seconds. Slowly add 1/2 of the powdered sugar, beat well, add 1 1/2 tablespoons milk. Gradually beat in remaining sugar
Add enough milk to make spreading consistency
enough frosting for 12 cupcakes
cut tops of cupcakes to make flat
